Botox® is an agent derived from Botulinum that reduces wrinkles and fine lines by
temporarily paralyzing the muscle. The most common area of treatment is frown lines of the forehead.
Botox® can also be used to treat excess sweating in the armpits or palms of the hands for a condition called hyperhydrosis. If you have tried
other treatments and failed to find relief, some commercial insurers may cover this procedure with prior approval. Call us for details.
Botox® temporarily reduces the contractions of the muscles that cause wrinkles. By relaxing the muscles, the overlying skin becomes smoother. Several tiny Botox® injections are administered directly into the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Your health care provider will determine where those muscles are located.
Botox® is safe and has very few side effects. Side effects may include headache, flu-like symptoms and temporary eyelid droop.
You may resume normal activities immediately. Many clients undergo Botox® during their lunch
Botox® has no downtime as opposed to other wrinkle reducing methods. Also, following treatment there is little to no pain or discomfort. Results can be seen after only one session.
A Botox® treatment lasts an average of three to four months when used on the face. Many clients do experience lengthening of their treatment intervals with regular use. Botox® may be effective six to ten months in the underarm when used for underarm sweating.
The only pain or discomfort is a slight pin-prick sensation from the small needle used to inject the Botox®. To alleviate discomfort, ice or a topical anesthetic may be applied prior to the treatment.
Candidates for Botox® injections are age eighteen to sixty-five and those interested in improving the appearance of their face. Many candidates are seeking relief from wrinkles and brow furrows.
Do not use Botox® if you have an infection at the injection site, are allergic to any of the ingredients in Botox® or are pregnant. Some conditions may increase the chance of infection. Certain clients with neuromuscular diseases should avoid Botox®. Consult your physician before receiving Botox®.
Generally, after three to four months, the Botox® effects will begin to fade and facial features will gradually return to their former state. Maintenance treatments are necessary to maintain the effect of Botox® for long periods of time.
The limitation of Botox® is that it is not a permanent answer to reducing wrinkles. Also, results vary and occasional problems with asymmetry may occur.

Avoid ASA and anti-inflammatory medications before treatment. Schedule a Botox® appointment at least two weeks prior to any special events to allow time to heal.
Treat any mild discomfort with Tylenol. Do not massage the treated areas because it may shift the Botox® creating an undesired effect. It is recommended that you avoid aerobic activity for a few hours after having a treatment.
